The Process of Retiring Our Studs

A New Chapter for Loveable Labradoodles

At Loveable Labradoodles, we’ve always been committed to breeding healthy, happy, and well-tempered Labradoodles. Our stud dogs have been an integral part of our breeding program, playing a key role in helping us maintain the quality and standards we hold dear. Recently, we’ve made the decision to retire several of our beloved studs, marking the end of a chapter but also the beginning of new possibilities.  This has been done in the past as well with ur breeding dogs, but it is always a hard decision to see them go.

Why Retire Our Studs?

Retiring a stud is a natural part of a breeder’s journey.  Oftentimes within a breeding program a quality stud is used for  several years to enhance and lay a good foundation for future generations and is then retired. Sometimes if a new stud prospect is produced from this foundation stud and retained from a current litter due to its genetic make up, color, size and temperament it may be to closely related  to the current breeding females to utilize fully in our program at the time it is ready to produce. I made the decision recently that instead of keeping these beautiful health tested and  ready to go boys that I would freeze their semen for later and let them go into pet homes. It is a win win for both me and the stud.  At Loveable Labradoodles, we take great care in making these decisions, considering both the stud’s happiness, health and the future of our breeding program.

While it’s bittersweet to retire such beloved dogs, we are confident that it is the right choice for them. Our retired studs will live out their days in comfort and relaxation, while still having a lasting impact on the Labradoodle breed.

Freezing Semen for Future Use

One of the most important aspects of retiring a stud is preserving their genetic legacy. While these dogs may no longer be actively breeding, their genetics live on through semen preservation. We’ve frozen semen from each of our retiring studs to ensure that their high-quality genes can still be used in the future, either within our own program or by other breeders.

The process of freezing semen involves a careful collection and storage procedure. It’s a delicate science, requiring a team of experienced professionals to ensure the semen is viable long-term. Semen can be stored in cryogenic tanks at sub-zero temperatures, allowing it to remain viable for many years. This way, even after a stud has retired, we can continue to offer his genetics to help produce healthy, well-tempered puppies.

The Future of Our Studs’ Legacy

By freezing the semen of our retired studs, we’re ensuring that their legacy continues to positively impact the Loveable Labradoodles program for years to come.

At Loveable Labradoodles, we’re always looking for ways to enhance the breed, and the genetic contributions of our retired studs will continue to play a role in shaping the future of our Labradoodles. Their  influence will be felt for generations.

Saying Goodbye (For Now)

As we say goodbye to our retiring studs, we’re filled with gratitude for the role they’ve played in our breeding program and the joy they’ve brought to families all over. We know their legacy will live on in the puppies they’ve helped bring into the world, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact their genetics will have on future generations.

Thank you to all our families to whom our boys have found their forever homes. . I am so excited to see and hear your stories and how they have fit right into your own families as a valid member.  We know their contributions will never be forgotten.
